A Weekend in Bath: Roman History Meets Georgian Elegance

Why Visit Bath?

Bath is one of England's most beautiful cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built around natural hot springs that the Romans discovered nearly 2,000 years ago, the city combines ancient history with elegant Georgian architecture, world-class restaurants, and a relaxed pace that makes it ideal for a weekend break.

Getting There

Bath Spa station is served by Great Western Railway from London Paddington (90 minutes) and Bristol Temple Meads (15 minutes). Trains run frequently throughout the day. The city centre is a short walk from the station.

Day One: History and Architecture

The Roman Baths

Start at the city's most famous attraction. The Roman Baths are remarkably well preserved and include the original Roman temple, bathing complex, and museum. Allow 90 minutes to two hours for the full experience. Book tickets online to skip the queue.

Bath Abbey

Steps from the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Climb the tower for panoramic views of the city. The 212 steps are worth the effort.

The Royal Crescent

Walk uphill to the Royal Crescent, a sweeping semicircle of 30 terraced houses built in the 1770s. Number 1 Royal Crescent is a museum showing how the Georgian elite lived. The adjacent Royal Victoria Park is perfect for a rest.

Day Two: Markets, Food, and Relaxation

Thermae Bath Spa

For a modern spa experience using Bath's natural thermal waters, visit Thermae Bath Spa. The rooftop pool offers stunning views over the city while you soak in naturally warm mineral water.

Pulteney Bridge and the Weir

One of only a handful of bridges in the world lined with shops on both sides. The view of the weir from the bridge is one of Bath's most photographed scenes.

Food and Drink

Bath punches well above its weight for food. The city has excellent restaurants ranging from fine dining to relaxed bistros. Do not miss a traditional Bath bun or a Sally Lunn bun from the oldest house in Bath.

Plan Your Bath Weekend

Bath is easily reached from London and makes a perfect addition to any UK itinerary. Remember to have your UK ETA approved before you arrive in the country.
