Getting There

Must-See Landscapes
The Old Man of Storr
The most iconic landmark on Skye, this dramatic rock pinnacle rises above the eastern coast. The walk to the viewpoint takes about an hour each way and offers extraordinary views.
The Fairy Pools
A series of crystal-clear pools and waterfalls at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains. The colours are extraordinary, especially on a clear day.
Quiraing
A spectacular landslip on the northern tip of the island with otherworldly rock formations. The circular walk takes two to three hours and is one of the finest in Scotland.
Neist Point Lighthouse
A dramatic clifftop walk leads to this lighthouse at the most westerly point of Skye. It is one of the best spots to watch the sunset and look for whales and dolphins.
Practical Tips
- Visit outside July and August to avoid the worst crowds
- Skye weather is notoriously changeable — waterproofs are essential
- Midges (tiny biting insects) are a nuisance from June to September — bring repellent
- Book accommodation well in advance, as options are limited
- Fill up your fuel tank before exploring — petrol stations are sparse
